My Comics

I began making “comics” a few months before the pandemic hit, in January 2020. As the pandemic took hold and staying-at-home became our reality, making these little comics became my therapy—my way to vent about how hard life had become and to connect with like-minded moms while trapped in my house with my family.

Fast forward to January 2022: I’d decided to start an Instagram account solely dedicated to my comics and one of my posts about “The Double Standards of Parenting” went viral. All of the sudden, I had way more eyes on my work than ever before.

While I had no idea what “going viral” would end up meaning for my life, what I quickly learned was this: moms ALL OVER THE WORLD are drowning and feel completely alone in the challenges of modern motherhood. I knew it was an issue here in the U.S., but I had no idea that this feeling was so universal.

Since then, my account has become a sounding board for moms who are experiencing inequality in their households, families, work, and relationships. Even though women write to me from all over the globe, their stories all sound extremely similar. Many of these moms are women who, just like me, “thought I was the only one who felt this way” (despite tons of information out there that proves the contrary).

I make comics about both my personal life and society-at-large. Sometimes I tackle political topics and double standards, but for the most part, my work focuses on inequality in the household, the mental load of motherhood, and the challenges associated with being the default parent.

At times, my comics have been seen as controversial (check out my press page to learn about “PeachGate”) and there has been no shortage of internet trolls who have come to share their anger with me, but for the most part, @momlife_comics has been a wonderful creative outlet and place to connect with like-minded moms who feel the same way that I do:

We fiercely love our lives, our partners, and our children, and yet, we’re also extremely frustrated by the lack of support—both in our households and in our culture & society.

While I never expected these comics to take off the way that they have, I am SO grateful to everyone who has shared them far + wide and look forward to continuing to make them for many years to come.

My first book, a comic memoir entitled Mama Needs a Minute! (published by Chronicle Books), is coming out on March 11th, 2025.
